SILVERSMITHING I
Deanna Lea Jacobsen
This introductory class will acquaint the student with the basic
skills and tools necessary to the silversmith. You will design
and construct a pendant or charm out of sterling silver and then
put your finished piece on a chain that you have created out of
silver wire. You will learn to solder using a torch, learn to
use the jeweler’s saw and learn how to use files and sandpaper
to finish your piece. Decorative stamps and hammers as well as
patinas will be used to embellish the surface of the silver.

SILVERSMITHING II
Deanna Lea Jacobsen
This advanced class will teach you the techniques of decorative
overlay and stone setting. You will make a brooch using an
overlay technique to put an image on the silver. You will learn
to make a bezel and set a stone as well as how to make, and
attach, a pin-back to your piece. Make a pair of earrings using
a bezel set stone and silver wire. All of these techniques:
stone setting, stamping, hammering and patinas will be used to
add dimension and interest to your pieces.

METALSMITHING I (C)
Jacqueline Gore
Get acquainted with the basic tools of the jewelers’ craft and
their proper use. Learn about cold connections; a method of
joining metals without soldering, as you make a pair of
earrings. Additionally, you will practice joining pieces of
copper using different soldering techniques with torches. You
will make a sterling silver ring as you learn about surface
embellishment techniques. You may buy materials from your
instructor as needed.

ADVANCED METALSMITHING (C)
Jacqueline Gore
Express your individuality and fabricate jewelry of your choice.
Explore elements of design such as texture, shape and line.
Learn new techniques including die-forming, light-forging, metal
corrugation and stone setting. Learn to make a chain and
other mechanisms which can be incorporated into your projects.
You may buy materials from your instructor as needed.
