Benjamin Gibson was born in Quito, Ecuador. Growing up, he traveled the world with his parents doing missionary work. This profound opportunity to experience life in exotic places like India, Philippines, Peru, and Argentina gave him a true sense of life’s diversity. Upon returning to the United States, Benjamin studied graphic design at the Art Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He later moved to California to continue his fine art education at Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach, California. His art conveys contemporary life while reflecting on the influences of mass culture, technology, environments and their relationships to each other. These experiences are relayed to the viewer through visual symbols, metaphors, and archetypes. This solidifies his intention of creating riveting and provocative imagery, to show the facets of our complex world that are not so easily seen or defined. As someone who is so intimately interested in portraying mortal consciousness with traditional artistic mediums of communication, he conveys the true experience of the human meta-aesthetic.
